The sixth largest
school district in the United States determined that it wanted to
interconnect its 300 schools and administrative facilities spread
over a 150 by 100 mile area with an IP gigabit Ethernet
network. Over this network the District intended to overlay a VoIP
telephone system with a phone to every one of the 16,000 classrooms
and 12,000 administration desks, high speed video including 80
streaming channels and 1000 Video-on-Demand channels, as well as
video conferencing. The overall budget is approximately $100M.
Global's Role:
- Provide independent technical and management expertise in data,
voice and video to the project manager/CTO
- Serve on the project steering committee for day to day and
strategic management of all phases the project
- Manage other consultants and direct their activities
- Participate in all RFI, RFP and vendor evaluation activities
- Validate all processes (Independent Validation and Verification)
- Ensure Requirements coverage
- Develop Alternative technical solutions
- Provide in depth technical analysis
- Provide Specialized Technical Analysis- (Wireless Trunking
Solution)
- Ensure load and traffic modeling reflected the requirements
Outcome:
- Procurement for Dark Fiber, WAN electronics, Voice System
and LAN Electronics completed in June 2004
- 300 sites have fiber300 sites are on the Gigabit WAN
- 200 Sites have new PBX's networked over the WAN
- More than 16,000 phones are installed
- All systems are ahead schedule and under budget
- WAN is transporting video conferencing, streaming video and
Video on Demand
